24 Hours Holter Monitor

The 24-hour Holter monitor is a portable, non-invasive electrocardiogram (ECG) device that continuously records your heart’s electrical activity for a full 24 hours (or longer, if needed) while you go about your normal daily routine. This test is essential for detecting intermittent or transient heart rhythm abnormalities that may not be captured during a standard, brief ECG in the clinic.

What Does the Holter Monitor Evaluate?

  • Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), such as atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, or tachycardia

  • Episodes of palpitations, dizziness, fainting (syncope), or unexplained fatigue

  • Effectiveness of antiarrhythmic medications or pacemaker function

  • Silent ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart without symptoms)

  • Correlation between symptoms and actual heart rhythm changes

Benefits of the 24-Hour Holter

  • Captures real-life heart activity: records during sleep, exercise, stress, and rest

  • Improves diagnostic accuracy: identifies rhythm disturbances that occur sporadically

  • Guides treatment decisions: helps cardiologists determine if medication, lifestyle changes, or further intervention (e.g., ablation or device implantation) are needed

  • Simple and safe: painless, outpatient procedure with minimal disruption to daily life

The Holter monitor is a widely used, evidence-based tool recommended by major cardiology societies for evaluating suspected arrhythmias and unexplained cardiac symptoms.
